ARTIST STATEMENT:

My collages start from the ground up— a gel plate combed into ribs, a field of coral shades, a disc of spirals printed off an ordinary drain cover. I work into them and onto them, without a plan, the way I’ve spent my working life listening— to follow what surfaces. An artist by birth, with a degree in fine arts, I used to joke that I “sold out” to become a psychotherapist. Now I recognize both as art forms— each teaching me to see and to listen with dyadic attunement, to relationship in all its visible and invisible layers. A pressed edge, a photo memory, scraps of a child’s drawing, a color that won’t behave— and the piece slowly tells me what it’s about. Always, it’s a feeling before it has a name; sometimes a place I carried out of memory; sometimes the world pushing in. I trust the layers to know more than I do.
